Verse:
“I have the right to do anything,” you say - but not everything is beneficial.” 1 Corinthians 6:12
Thoughts:
In northern Michigan, we are now hitting stride with our ice fishing season. I live on a big inland lake, and the last I checked, we were looking at about 14” of ice. You see, before you can ever think about fishing here in the winter, you have to know if the ice is thick enough. It’s got to be at least 4” for a person to walk on it. But, every year, we have people who get into trouble, because they just can’t wait. I have a friend of mine who has special boots that he wears that are nailed onto 8’ long 2 X 4s. He wants to make sure he spreads the weight out on the thin ice, because he has to be one of the first people out fishing. It’s crazy!
Action Point:
You ever wonder why we just have to push the line so much? We do this spiritually too. Instead of just trusting what God has told us to do in his word, we find ourselves nailing boots onto 2 X 4s, knowing that what we’re doing is pushing the limits. Biblical wisdom would just say - trust God. You can save yourself a lot of heartache from falling through the ‘thin ice’ if you just stick to what he says we should do.
Sportsman’s Tip of the Day:
Covering a fishing hole overnight with a 2” foam piece of insulation allows you to come back the next morning and fish the hole without having to drill it out again.
