Verse:
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only…” James 1:22
Thoughts: This fall while I was whitetail hunting, I sat in permanent elevated stands, ranging from 4’X5’ up to as big as 6’X8’. I would turn on the propane heater, pull out my thermos of coffee, and sit there eating donuts, crackers, or even warm up a can of soup with the windows closed.
Action Point:
The older I’ve gotten, the more I enjoy my comforts. When I was younger, I was out in brush blinds in subzero temperatures, never even thinking to take a warm drink or snacks along with me. You might say that being older, I’ve earned the right to have some comforts while I hunt. But therein lies the problem. Comforts not only have made me soft, but they don’t encourage me to actively stay engaged in what the deer patterns presently are. With the blinds, I’m expecting the deer to come to me, instead of me going to them. As I think about this problem from a spiritual standpoint, the last I checked, the Great Commission expected me to go out into the world and not sit comfortably observing from a distance. I know I’ve got to guard against the complacency that comforts bring. How about you?
Sportsman’s Tip of the Day:
If you are looking to buy a piece of hunting property, make sure to know the set-up of your neighbor’s property to see if it will inhibit good hunting on your own property. Sometimes, what they’re doing will matter just as much as what you are doing on your own property.
