Sportsmen's Devotional - Perseverance

Bible Verse/Version:

“...everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” - Matthew 7:24

Thoughts:

Last year in the main area where I hunt, there was an impressive white tail buck that had periodically been caught on camera.  By Michigan standards it was a huge - 18 points with long tines, nice mass, and a body that would probably check in around 280 lbs live weight.  Everyone within about a 2 mile area hoped that they would be the lucky one to cross paths with this bruiser.

But one retired gentleman upped the ante and took matters into his own hands simply by increasing his odds by spending every morning and every evening in the woods in early bow season, trying to get a crack at this buck before someone else did.  And to his credit, he did get his shot…18 days in. Yep, 18 days in a row this fella dragged himself out of bed in the morning to get to his bow stand an hour before light just hoping for one opportunity at the prized buck.  To his delight, he was rewarded because of dedication and perseverance, cashing in on the 18 point buck!

Action Point:

As hunters, we all know that it takes sacrifice, time, and effort to find success in the outdoors. It’s a price we’re willing to pay, because we have a passion and love for the outdoors.  As Christians, we need to replicate this kind of effort in our daily study of God’s word.  If we all pursued God through his word and committed to it like this retiree committed to this buck, I’m sure we would all reap the reward for our efforts there too. Try it…18 days in a row!

Sportsman’s Tip of the Day:

If you are tired of dragging your deer through the woods to get it out, try using a kid’s snow sled underneath the deer’s body.  It reduces the amount of friction greatly!
