Sportsmen's Devotional - Debris

Bible Verse/Version:

“There is no one righteous, not even one….” Romans 3:10

Thoughts:  

    This past week, my home state of Michigan experienced a once in a lifetime ice storm.  We lost power for a week, and as I write this, I have friends who have been told they won’t have it for another month.  Thousands of telephone poles were snapped off, and hundreds of transformers blew.  The level of destruction has been equated to what is left from a level 5 hurricane.  This is not a fix it situation; it’s a rebuild. 

     As an outdoorsman, I kept thinking about the hunting property I lease about 45 minutes from my home.  So, when it was safe enough, I took a trip over to see the condition of the  property and woods.  As I got there, I couldn’t even pull in the driveway.  Trees were over power lines; my shooting lanes were completely filled in with limbs that had fallen;  trees had snapped off.  It was a disaster and there was debris everywhere.  I stood there contemplating the magnitude of work that it was going to take to clean everything up.

Action Point:

      We as people also have the ability to create disasters with our lives. For some, looking  back at the history of their life would bring up one disaster after another - debris from bad decisions everywhere. But, Christ died for all.  He not only paid that price for our salvation, but to bring about the redemptive work of the cross and make us completely whole.  His forgiveness can take a lifetime of debris, and in an instant, remove all that sin away for a fresh start.  If you’ve never experienced that forgiveness, I encourage you to pray right now and ask Christ to forgive you of your sins. Confess and believe that he is your Lord.

       Early spring normally is a great time of year to clear shooting lanes with chainsaws or trimmers - before the leaves get on the trees.
